Maternity Photo Session Ideas in Central New Jersey

Hey there! Do you have a baby on the way? I’d love to help you plan your epic maternity photo session! I’m a New Jersey family photographer who is based out of Central New Jersey. Here are some photo session ideas to help you plan your maternity session.

The first thing you have to decide on is your location. Where do you want your maternity photos to be taken? Luckily in New Jersey, you have a plethora of location types. We’ve got everything from open fields to sandy beaches to urban landscapes.

Location Idea # 1 The Beach

One of my favorite locations to do maternity sessions is at the beach. There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset over the water. One of the nice things about doing beach sessions, is that you can actually get in the water. Getting in the water definitely adds a dramatic element to your photos and just makes the photos so much more beautiful. Below are some examples:

Location # 2 Open Field

I love photographing at open fields or meadows because the light is so beautiful…especially during golden hour. There are so many parks throughout New Jersey that contain large open landscapes. Below are some example photos from Colonial Park in Somerset and Lenape Park in Kenilworth.

Location # 3 Waterfalls

Who doesn’t love a good picture in front of a waterfall? Well, Hemlock Falls in South Orange is a fantastic location to have a maternity shoot. There is a little bit of a walk to the waterfall but its not far at all. If its a hot day and your feeling adventurous; you can even dunk under the waterfall and take a few shots all wet!
