Hey there! Do you have a baby on the way? I’d love to help you plan your epic New Jersey maternity photo session! I’m a New Jersey family photographer who is based out of Central New Jersey. Here are some photo session ideas to help you plan your dream maternity session.
The first thing you have to decide on is your location. Where do you want your maternity photos to be taken? Luckily in New Jersey, you have a plethora of location types. We’ve got everything from open fields to sandy beaches to urban landscapes.
Maternity Session Idea # 1 A New Jersey Beach
One of my favorite locations to do New Jersey maternity sessions are at the beach. There is nothing more beautiful than a sunset over the water. One of the nice things about doing New Jersey beach sessions, is that you can actually get in the water. Getting in the water definitely adds a dramatic element to your photos and just makes the photos so much more beautiful. Below are some examples:

Maternity Session Idea # 1 A New Jersey Park or Meadow
I love photographing at open fields or meadows because the light is so beautiful…especially during golden hour. There are so many New Jersey parks that contain large open landscapes. Below are some example photos from Colonial Park in Somerset County and Lenape Park in Union County.
Maternity Session Idea # 3 A New Jersey Waterfall
Who doesn’t love a good picture in front of a waterfall? Well, Hemlock Falls in South Orange, New Jersey is a fantastic location to have a maternity session. There is a little bit of a walk to the waterfall but its not far at all. If its a hot day and your feeling adventurous; you can even dunk under the waterfall and take a few shots all wet!

New Jersey Maternity Session Ideas
Newborns
Newborn sessions are taken in the comfort of your own home. Sessions are scheduled one - three weeks after the baby's birth. Photos include the whole family and are mostly candid. Little props are used.

Maternity Sessions are taken between 28-34 weeks. Sessions are taken at golden hour (one hour before sunset.) Poses include individual images of the mama to be, and poses with a spouse/partner.
families
Family sessions are taken at golden hour (one hour before sunset). Poses are mostly candid & organic; although some posed images will be sprinkled in.
