Hey mama! Chances are you stumbled upon this blog post because you are looking for some newborn photo pose ideas for your in-home newborn session. Well, you’ve come to the right place!
I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey family and newborn photographer servicing families all throughout the Central, New Jersey area. In-home newborn sessions are a huge part of my business, and I’m so happy that you are here. Let’s get started!
Okay, so you may be thinking “What kind of pose is that?” Well, to tell you the truth, I take a lot of photos of mom holding her baby during my in-home newborn sessions. You might not even call it a pose because it’s super natural and organic. I rarely have to do anything other than tell mom to hold her baby close to her. However, that newborn photo pose is my favorite to capture because it is so natural and easy to photograph. Babies want to be near their mothers. That is where they feel safe, happy, and content. What better way to get photos than that?
Okay, so if you haven’t realized yet. I focus a lot on natural & organic poses. I don’t put newborn babies in awkward or unnatural positions. It’s not my vibe or my style. Instead, one of my favorite newborn photo poses to capture is the newborn simply laying on mom & dad’s bed or in a crib/bassinet. Sometimes, I swaddle the baby and sometimes I don’t. It depends on the baby and how he/she is comfortable.
Okay, so this pose is truly my most favorite to capture! Usually, this pose works best when babies are swaddles but they don’t have to be. I place mom and dad in front of a large window to create a nice backlighted image or silhouette. I face mom and dad towards each other and place the baby in mom or dad’s arms right in the center. This photo also makes an incredible black & white image.
This pose is such an intimate moment between the baby and mother. There is nothing more beautiful than a sleeping baby against their mother’s chest. That skin to skin contact is known to be so important during the baby’s development. It’s called Kangaroo Care & it’s highly recommended for premature babies or babies in the NICU.
Okay, so this is the last pose that I will usually try and capture. It’s a photo of just the baby’s feet with mom and dad’s hands cupped around it. Again, this image looks really cool in Black & White. It’s not an easy image to take so that is why I usually save it for the end. It’s a bit more awkward for me to take as I have to bend in weird angles to get around mom and dad’s hands; but it’s such a cool shot. Basically, the baby has to be laying down on a bed and mom and dad have to get down on the ground in order to get their hands around the baby’s feet. I have to also maneuver myself over their backs to capture the shot. Again, there’s a lot of moving parts to this pose, but it’s so worth it!

EXPLORE SERVICES
My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.

Welcome I'm Danielle
"Working with her from booking up to when we took our photos was a breeze. She helped me pick out outfits for the family and was so responsive and kind when I was reaching out with questions or needing suggestions. I was so nervous now that our oldest is 17 months and doesn’t know how to sit still but she was so patient with us and completely understood when our toddler kept running away from the camera. Even with all the chaos I felt she was able to calm my anxiety and she got such beautiful photos."

"I found Danielle on a Facebook group over the summer and signed up to be notified for her fall shoots. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product - we love all the photos. She turned the photos around so quickly too. We’re so happy we chose Danielle to take our family photos this year and will definitely be using her in the future! Thanks again! 😊."

"My husband, 9 month old, and I took family photos for the first with Danielle and I cannot say enough good things about our experience! Before we even took the photos she sent so many helpful documents with outfit suggestions and tips for taking pictures with babies! Then when we arrived she was so sweet and did an incredible job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera! Between directing us on how to pose, to making my daughter smile! She was so patient with us and really made sure that we got every shot we wanted!."
