Hey mama! Are you looking for some tips on how to use your camera phone to take better photos of your little ones? Chances are that you stumbled upon this blog post for that very reason. Well, its time to dive in. This blog posts will offer you 3 tips on how to transform your boring cell phone pictures into high quality and frame worthy photos.

First off, let me introduce myself quickly. I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey family + newborn photographer. I service families all throughout Central, New Jersey. My passion is to bring families closer together through their portrait session and capture the natural bond between mothers and their children.

Okay, let’s dive in!!

Tip # 1 For Taking Better Photos with an I-Phone

Take Your Photos At the Right Time of Day

What is the right time of day? The best time to take photos of your children is during golden hour. That is the time right before the sun sets (about an hour before.) The light is soft and golden which creates the perfect glow as your backdrop. Now I know some of you may be thinking that golden hour is way too close to bedtime, and I completely understand that. I’m a mama of twins so I know how bad that can turn out. However, if you can readjust your schedule so nap time is a little later; I promise golden hour photos are completely worth it. If you absolutely can’t make that happen, then try going out earlier in the day right after sunrise. You will get the same effect.

Tip # 2 For Taking Better Photos with an I-Phone

Use Good Composition

What the heck is composition? Okay, I’m using a very technical term here but I promise it’s easier than it sounds. Composition is basically the way you position your subjects in the camera frame to give the photo a more interesting look. There are so many ways to use composition. Here is one way: Position your kids (or whoever you are taking the photo of) in the corner of the frame. This is called “Rule of Thirds.” So basically that means, don’t put your subject directly in the center of the photo. Placing your subject in a corner of the frame offers a more interesting look to your photo. Here are some examples:

Tip # 3 For Taking Better Photos with an I-Phone

Get Down on the Kid’s Level

What do I mean by this? I want you to actually lower your body so you are at the same height as your kids. When taking photos this way, your kids aren’t looking up at you. This can look awkward and cause an unnatural looking photo. Don’t get too low though. You don’t want your kids looking down at you either. Eye level is the best. Look at the photo below as an example.

Okay! So there you have it! I really hope these 3 tips will help you take better photos of your kiddos.

EXPLORE SERVICES

My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.
