Hey mama! Chances are you stumbled upon this blog post because you were looking for the best Central Jersey park to take your kids to this spring. I’ve got you covered. I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey family photographer, as well as a mom of twins. I know how important it is to get your kiddos out of the house and into the fresh air. That’s why I wrote this blog post. I wanted to share six reasons why Colonial Park in Somerset is the best Central Jersey park for kids.
Colonial Park has two really great playgrounds for kids to play on. And an added bonus, they are fenced in! One playground is geared more for toddlers while the other one is geared more for the older child. So it’s a great choice if you have two or more kids at different age levels.
When looking for the best parks in Central Jersey; I always gravitate towards parks that have some sort of spray ground or splash pad. Especially in the late spring when the weather gets super hot. Colonial Park has a great splash pad that is right next to the playground. So once the kids are done playing in the water ,they can go straight to the play ground to dry off.
Another reason why Colonial Park is the best park in Central Jersey, is because they have a small pond with paddleboats. The paddleboats are only open certain months out of the year (usually in the spring and summer.) They paddleboats are super cute and the pond is relatively small making it a quick and easy experience for the kids.
What better way to enjoy a warm spring night than playing a round of mini golf? And yes, Colonial Park has that too. Right next to the paddleboats, there is a really nice mini golf course for the kids to play on. It’s also right next to the playground and splash pad so everything is easy to get to.
Colonial Park is truly the best Central Jersey park because it has everything. Right across the street from the playground, there is an entrance to a quick and easy nature trail. The trail itself is super flat and winds through trees and along another lake so it’s very easy to trek and scenic. You can easily hike the trail with young kids.
My last reason why Colonial Park in my favorite Central Jersey park is because there are two really beautiful flower gardens. The flower gardens are located at the far end of the park. So if you are at the playground, you will have to get in your car and drive over to the opposite side of the park. You can walk, but it is rather far for little kids. The flower gardens are in full bloom in the late spring and summer. My kids always have a great time walking around the gardens and looking for frogs or turtles in the small pond.
And that’s a wrap! I really hope you enjoyed these 6 reasons why Colonial Park in the best Central Jersey park. I’ve been going to Colonial Park for many years, and every time I go; my kids have a great time. Along with it being a great park for kids, it’s also a wonderful place to take family photos. As a New Jersey family photographer, I have taken several family photos at Colonial Park and the location never disappoints.

My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.

"Working with her from booking up to when we took our photos was a breeze. She helped me pick out outfits for the family and was so responsive and kind when I was reaching out with questions or needing suggestions. I was so nervous now that our oldest is 17 months and doesn’t know how to sit still but she was so patient with us and completely understood when our toddler kept running away from the camera. Even with all the chaos I felt she was able to calm my anxiety and she got such beautiful photos."

"I found Danielle on a Facebook group over the summer and signed up to be notified for her fall shoots. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product - we love all the photos. She turned the photos around so quickly too. We’re so happy we chose Danielle to take our family photos this year and will definitely be using her in the future! Thanks again! 😊."

"My husband, 9 month old, and I took family photos for the first with Danielle and I cannot say enough good things about our experience! Before we even took the photos she sent so many helpful documents with outfit suggestions and tips for taking pictures with babies! Then when we arrived she was so sweet and did an incredible job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera! Between directing us on how to pose, to making my daughter smile! She was so patient with us and really made sure that we got every shot we wanted!."
