Hey there! Chances are you stumbled upon this blog post because you are curious about some fall family photo poses. I’m so happy to help you. I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey family photographer. I’m a lifestyle photographer so what that means is I focus more on candid poses than formal ones. Below I listed my top 5 poses for fall family photos!
This is one of my favorite poses to capture, and in my opinion; the easiest one to take. If you are afraid of stiff or awkward poses, then the “walking pose” is the one to do. It never fails, when I tell my families to hold hands, walk forwards, and look at each other; I capture the most beautiful and natural photos. “The walking pose” is relatively easy to take. I tell my clients to act like they were just walking in the park together. I always tell my families to not look at the camera, but at each other. So if you’re feeling stiff in your fall family photo shoot; ask your phtographer if you can go for a “walk.”
There’s nothing more fun in the fall, then scooping up a big piles of leaves and then throwing them up in the air. The kids have a lot of fun doing it, and it’s when I capture the most genuine smilies. This pose is mostly for the kids, but parents can get involved too!
This is another one of my favorite poses to capture. And again, it’s super easy to capture. I sit my families on a blanket sitting nice and close to one another. I then yell out “Tickle Fight!” And it’s amazing how organic and natural the photos become. I capture genuine smiles and laughter. What makes a better photo than that?
I love this pose so much! This is a great pose to capture when the little ones are getting bored or antsy. If I notice little kids getting fidgety. I always tell my parents that we are going to do the “running” pose. I tell the kids that they are going to run and get their energy out. They always get excited when they hear this! I basically tell the kids to walk down the field or path (wherever the location is) and wait until I say “go.” I tell the parents to kneel down and open their arms like they were awaiting a giant hug. I then scream “go” and let the parents run into their parents arms. I capture photos while they are running and when they embrace. The photos always come out super sweet!
This pose is hardest to capture, but so worth it! It usually takes a few tries to get it right hahaha. Basically I have the kids hide under a giant blanket. I ask the parents to each take an end of the blanket and hold it until I say to lift it. I tell the kids that once the blanket is lifted off the ground to run out of it towards me. Again, this pose is tricky and it usually takes a little time to get right. But again, the final outcome is worth it!
So there you have it…my 5 top poses for fall family photos. Now most of these poses can be done during anytime of the year minues the throwing the leaves pose. So if you’re a family looking to get some photos done, be sure to screenshot some of these poses and show them to your photographer. If you’re a photographer looking for some ideas for your next session, be sure to use this as a reference.

EXPLORE SERVICES
My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.

"Working with her from booking up to when we took our photos was a breeze. She helped me pick out outfits for the family and was so responsive and kind when I was reaching out with questions or needing suggestions. I was so nervous now that our oldest is 17 months and doesn’t know how to sit still but she was so patient with us and completely understood when our toddler kept running away from the camera. Even with all the chaos I felt she was able to calm my anxiety and she got such beautiful photos."

"I found Danielle on a Facebook group over the summer and signed up to be notified for her fall shoots. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product - we love all the photos. She turned the photos around so quickly too. We’re so happy we chose Danielle to take our family photos this year and will definitely be using her in the future! Thanks again! 😊."

"My husband, 9 month old, and I took family photos for the first with Danielle and I cannot say enough good things about our experience! Before we even took the photos she sent so many helpful documents with outfit suggestions and tips for taking pictures with babies! Then when we arrived she was so sweet and did an incredible job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera! Between directing us on how to pose, to making my daughter smile! She was so patient with us and really made sure that we got every shot we wanted!."
