Hey there! I’m Danielle. I’m a New Jersey maternity photographer. Are you a pregnant mama due some time in the winter or early spring? Chances are you are here because you are looking for some winter maternity session ideas. You’ve come to the right place! As a New Jersey photographer, I’ve photographed dozens of pregnant mamas. And sometimes, these mamas are due in the cold winter months. Don’t miss out on an epic maternity session just because it’s winter. Here are 3 ideas that will inspire you to get those maternity photos taken regardless of the dreary weather.

Winter Maternity Session Idea #1 – Do it Outside Anyway

Just becaues it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful maternity session outdoors. Sometimes, the most beautiful backdrops can be in the winter; especially if there is snow on the ground! There are also some gorgeous winter maternity dresses that look more like a “snow queen” dress. Think long velvet dresses or beautiful winter capes. I photographed this beutiful mama in the dead of winter and we were lucky enough to have some snow on the ground. The photos came out beautiful despite the chilly weather. So if you’re pregnant in the winter and there’s snow expected in the forecast; head out right after the snow falls or even during the storm if you’re brave!

Winter Maternity Session Idea # 2 – Head Indoors

If the weather really isn’t in your favor and you’re not a fan of the cold; then head indoors! There’s nothing wrong with doing a winter maternity session in the comfort of your home. I don’t have a studio so when I do indoor photoshoots, I do them right in your home. A lot of times this is great for expectant mamas because they don’t have to get up and go anywhere! I come to you and make the whole process really easy for you. In-home maternity sessions can be great if you like a more candid and natural style of photography. In-home sessions tend to be less formal and overly posed which is great if you feel awkward or nervous in front of the camera. The photos below are some examples of an in-home maternity session.

Winter Maternity Session Idea # 3 – Head to a Studio

Okay so this one isn’t one that I usually photograph because it’s not really my style. However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it. If you’re looking for a more formal and posed maternity session, then head to an indoor studio! You can find so many photographers that have their own studio or rent one. Maternity photos in an indoor studio definitely has its advantages. The lighting is usually very beautiful. Studios also usually have different backdrops you can choose from, as well as various props you can utilize. So if you live in a home that doesn’t have a lot of natural light or if you just don’t want a photographer in your house; then a studio might be a better option for you.

And that’s it! No matter what idea you choose; make sure you don’t miss out a maternity session just because it’s winter. Reach out to a photographer to get your winter maternity session on the books.
