Hey there mama! Chances are you stumbled upon this blog post because you are looking for some newborn photo ideas at home. You’ve come to the right place! In this blog post, I highlight 3 ideas you can do today. No fancy equipment or camera needed. If you don’t know who I am already, I’m Danielle! I’m a family and newborn photographer based in Central, New Jersey.
You can’t go wrong with putting your baby in a basket, and snapping some really cute photos. I would recommend a larger basket that can fit your baby’s whole body. This is an affordable basket available on Amazon. This basket is also really cute, but alittle more pricey. I would recommend filling the basket with a neutral toned blanket and then placing a few scarves or wraps to drape across the basket to add some color or texture. I feel that baskets always provide a soothing and comfortable environment for a baby which makes them feel cozy and safe. Rarely do I every have babies be fussy in a basket!
Now, I know this may sound really easy and simple; and that’s why I love this pose. It is probably the easiest and simple photo you can get of a baby, but in my opinion; less is more. I recommend laying a neutral toned blanket on the bed. Try and stay clear of any patterns or dark colors. A simple white sheet will do as well. Be sure to smooth it out as best you can to remove any wrinkles. Either swaddle or put the baby in a plain onsie or outfit of choice. Just be sure the outfit is neutral toned (white, beige, brown, etc.) Lay the baby down on it’s back and try to have the baby look up at you. And snap the picture! You can get all different angles with this pose as well. Take photos of the baby’s feets and hands, zoom in close and capture just the baby’s sweet face.
This photo is one I try and capture a lot during newborn sessions. It’s also super easy too!. Basically, place the baby in his/her crib. Try and turn the baby’s head towards the camera. Come over the side of the cribe, bend down low, and point your camera towards the side of the crib. You have to get down low to make this photo work. Try and zoom in close to the baby’s face but still have some of the bars showing. Snap away!
P.S. If you’re looking for some adorable outfits to put your baby in; I’d recommend going with a knitted neutral toned outfit. You can find some cute gender neutral ones on Amazon. Here are some ideas: Outfit # 1, Outfit # 2, Outfit # 3
There you have it! I really hope these at home newborn photo ideas have helped you. If this blog has inspired you or if you’d like more information on professional newborn photos; I’d love to hear from you. Send me a message on Instagram or fill out my contact form.

My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.

"Working with her from booking up to when we took our photos was a breeze. She helped me pick out outfits for the family and was so responsive and kind when I was reaching out with questions or needing suggestions. I was so nervous now that our oldest is 17 months and doesn’t know how to sit still but she was so patient with us and completely understood when our toddler kept running away from the camera. Even with all the chaos I felt she was able to calm my anxiety and she got such beautiful photos."

"I found Danielle on a Facebook group over the summer and signed up to be notified for her fall shoots. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product - we love all the photos. She turned the photos around so quickly too. We’re so happy we chose Danielle to take our family photos this year and will definitely be using her in the future! Thanks again! 😊."

"My husband, 9 month old, and I took family photos for the first with Danielle and I cannot say enough good things about our experience! Before we even took the photos she sent so many helpful documents with outfit suggestions and tips for taking pictures with babies! Then when we arrived she was so sweet and did an incredible job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera! Between directing us on how to pose, to making my daughter smile! She was so patient with us and really made sure that we got every shot we wanted!."
