Hey mama! Chances are you came across this blog post because you are looking for ideas on what the heck to wear for your newborn session. Planning your newborn session outfits can be tricky. And as a new mom, the last thing you want to do is get dressed up. Trust me, I’ve been there! If you don’t know me already, I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey newborn photographer based in Central, New Jersey. In this blog post, I hightlight 3 outfit ideas that you can wear for your newborn session.

Newborn Session Outfit # 1 – A Flowy Dress

I know that the last thing you probably want to wear as a new mom is a dress. But hear me out. Dresses do look lovely and really give your newborn photos a more elegant look. I know everyone isn’t a dress person ,especially after having a baby; but trust me on this. I always tell my mamas to choose a dress that is flowy. Let’s face it. Our bodies aren’t in perfect shape after having a baby so that’s why I use the word flowy. Flowy dress are not only comfortable, they may hide some of the extra pounds of baby weight. Flowy dresses are more flattering and really give your photos a beautiful look. I do suggest long over short because I just love the way long dresses look in photos. However, if short is your style; that’s fine too! Just be sure to choose a dress that is neutral toned. Think “white, beige, brown, tan, etc.” This is an Amazon link to one of my favorites.

Newborn Session Outfit # 2 – Jeans and T-Shirt/Sweater

Okay, so I know this is the opposite of what I suggested above but, if you don’t feel comfortable in dresses then, jeans and a t-shirt or sweater are fine too. It’s really all about comfort. If you are more comfortable in jeans and nice sweater; then do that. Newborn session outfits are all about ease and comfort. So it’s really all about what you feel and look your best in. Just be sure that whatever top you are choosing, it’s neutral toned. Try and stay away from patterns and anything too bright.

Newborn Session Outfit Idea # 3 – Wear a Shirt with Buttons

This is an important tip for moms that are breastfeeding. Wearing a blouse with buttons can really help if you want to breasfeed your baby during the session. A lot of my mamas are nursing and will need to step out to feed their baby. Instead of changing or having take off your outfit; it’s so easy to unbutton your blouse to make nursing simple and easy. If you don’t want to wear a shirt and rather wear a dress, then choose a dress that’s easy to slip off or lower to allow your baby to feed. Stay away from anything that zippers or buttons in the back. This is a link to a simple white blouse that would be perfect.
