Hey there! Chances are you stumbled upon this blog post because you are wondering how much a newborn session costs. This blog post will definitely help you understand newborn session fees, and if it’s even worth the investment for your family. I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey newborn photographer who specializes in in-home lifestyle newborn sessions.
This is one major consideration when scoping out newborn photographer fees. There isn’t one size fits all when it comes to how much a newborn session costs. One photographer can charge a completely different price than the photographer up the street.
When considering a newborn session, you have to consider your values. Are you looking for someone who has plenty of experience? Or are you okay with a photographer that is just starting out and possible building his/her portfolio? Obviously, the photographer with the greater amount of experience will be pricier. You also have to consider your style of photography. What are you looking to mainly capture? Are you looking for more of a studio look? Or are you okay with photos in your home? This can also vary the price. Photographers taking pictures in a studio may be more expensive because you have to factor in studio fees, lighting equipment, etc.
So before you even look into pricing, make sure you have a solid idea on what you are valuing in a photographer, as well as the style you are looking for. Many photographers (including myself) have their own style that is unique to them. You have to make sure your vibe matches their style. My style is very natural & organic. So someone looking for a more posed & formal look will not be a good fit.

Before you even reach out to a photographer, be sure you have a budget in mind. I firmly believe that there is a photographer that is within everyone’s budget. For example, a photographer that is just starting out may only charge a few hundred dollars for a newborn session. So if your budget is less than $300; I would recommend finding a beginner photographer who is looking to build up their portfolio. When I first started out, I charged clients $250 for a newborn session. I slowly increased from there.
However, if you are looking for an experienced photographer who has many years under his/her belt; than you will have to expect to pay a bit more. Photographers who are well experienced & have expensive gear may charge anywhere between $500-$1,000 for a newborn session.
Again, you have to decide on a budget and then research from there.

This is the number one question I get. How many digital images do I receive? Again, that number can vary greatly between photographers. Some photographers are all inclusive which means they provide all of the digital images in the gallery. Some photographers (myself included) have different packages. Each package includes a specific amount of images. For example, my lowest package includes 25 digital images. Some photographers will also include print products within their packages. Again, the more that’s included; the price increases. Some photographers do something called in person sales. This means that the digital images and/or prints are decided & paid for after the session is complete. Photographers that include digital images and print products are usually within the $500-$1500 range.

One last thing you also need to consider when researching newborn session cost is the time that the photographer puts into the session before, during, and after. I know for myself, I include up to two hours of coverage. I also spend a few hours uploading and editing the photos after the session. So when I determine my packages; I factor in my time as well.
And that’s it! I hope you found this blog post helpful when considering newborn session costs. I know it can be very overwhelming deciding on if a newborn session is worth the investment. I can ensure you that it is! Feel free to check out this blog post to also help with deciding.

My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.

"Working with her from booking up to when we took our photos was a breeze. She helped me pick out outfits for the family and was so responsive and kind when I was reaching out with questions or needing suggestions. I was so nervous now that our oldest is 17 months and doesn’t know how to sit still but she was so patient with us and completely understood when our toddler kept running away from the camera. Even with all the chaos I felt she was able to calm my anxiety and she got such beautiful photos."

"I found Danielle on a Facebook group over the summer and signed up to be notified for her fall shoots. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product - we love all the photos. She turned the photos around so quickly too. We’re so happy we chose Danielle to take our family photos this year and will definitely be using her in the future! Thanks again! 😊."

"My husband, 9 month old, and I took family photos for the first with Danielle and I cannot say enough good things about our experience! Before we even took the photos she sent so many helpful documents with outfit suggestions and tips for taking pictures with babies! Then when we arrived she was so sweet and did an incredible job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera! Between directing us on how to pose, to making my daughter smile! She was so patient with us and really made sure that we got every shot we wanted!."
