Hey there! Chances are you are on the hunt for family photo outfits. If so, you’ve come to the right place. I’m Danielle! I’m a New Jersey family photographer. I know the stress of outfit planning can be tough. That’s why I created this blog post. To help you prep and plan your wadrobe with ease!

Family Photo Outfits Tip # 1 – Choose a Color Palette

This is an important tip. Before you even go shopping for your outfits, have a color palette in mind. Ask your photographer, what they would recommend. Every photographer has a different editing style & some colors go better than others within that style. When clients book with me; I always recommend a neutral color palette since I have a very warm and golden editing style. Once you decide on a color palette; choose two or three different colors within the palette. Make sure you don’t put everyone in the same color. You want to have a nice blend of colors to make the photos look natural.

Family Photo Outfits Tip # 2 – Choose Your Colors Based on Location

I have two different color palettes depending on the kind of location I am shooting at. For example, when photographing in parks or areas where there is alot of green grass or trees; I recommend sticking to earthy tones. This includes beige, tan, brown, white, olive green or deep red. These colors will look the best against the green background. Colors like orange, yellow, or pink will clash with the grass in the background. However, if you are heading to the beach or a lake for your family photos; you may want to choose outfits with a bit more color to reflect nicely against the water. This may include shades of blue, or light green, or even white. I wouldn’t recommend tan, beige, or brown because those colors would blend too much in with the sand.

Family Photo Outfits Tip # 3 – It’s Okay to Add in Patterns

This one may sound shocking but it’s okay for one person to be in a pattern. Notice I said one person hahaha. If you put more than one person in a pattern; it may be too distracting and end up clashing. You can put one person in a patterns like florals, stripes, or polka dots. Everyone else in the photo must be in a solid color that matches the pattern. For example, if you are going with a colorful floral pattern; then everyone else must match the florals in the pattern. If going with plaid, make sure everyone else in the photo matches with the color plaid.

In this photo, mom was in a plaid dress and everyone else was in solid colors.

In this photo, the young boy was the only one in stripes & everyone else matched the stripes.

My name is Danielle. I started Danielle Stio Photography in 2021. There is something about being an entrepreneur that really motivates me. This is more than a hobby for me. It is a passion and a calling.
I started this business at a very dark time in my life. I was searching for meaning and purpose and I found that through photography. My hope is that I can put a smile on my clients faces not only during their session , but after their session; and especially when their gallery is delivered.
